I would welcome an intelligent debater with GL regarding the French empire and Napoleon. Not some flame war, but you know, something with a lot of intelligence.

I've tried arguing the Union position for years with Trav, but everytime I do, when I wake up the next morning someone has spray-painted the likeness of George McClellan on my front door...

Wow I had no idea we had two Francophiles on this board.

Though I must confess it doesn't really do anything for me to hear it come from either GL or Lan. Not like it would if Segolene were smacking me across the face and calling me "scum" (in French, of course).

Gae is useless in this area. I went over there one night (I had no idea Trav was in England at the time, I thought he'd be there) and I had one of those English-French dictionaries, and I was trying to get Gae to tell me, in French, that she's a "tamer of men." As it turned out, what she was really telling me was "cats don't have knees."
